Sending Skin Cancer Location Photos Prior to Your Appointment

Cary Skin Center Banner

We ask that you or your referring physician send lesion location photos prior to your surgical appointment in order to assist us in planning your procedure. Typically, biopsy sites will heal over prior to your appointment and the area will be hard to identify even though the skin cancer still remains. Taking the pre-surgical photos as close as possible to the date of the biopsy ensures the area will be visible in the picture. When taking you photo(s), please follow these guidelines:

When taking you photo(s), please follow these guidelines:

  • Show the skin cancer in relation to another body area (for example, if the lesion is on your cheek, be sure the photo also shows your nose or ear, see below)
  • Identify the lesion in the photo by marking the skin with a pen, pointing to the lesion, or digitally marking the image prior to emailing
  • We accept the following image file types: .jpg, .bmp, .gif, .eps, .psd, .pdf, and .tiff

Be sure to include the patient's first, middle, and last name along with date of birth and date of appointment, if known.
